Cardillo begins her acting career with work on stage and in television before joining "Passions." She appears in guest roles on episodic series and made‑for‑TV projects, gaining experience on set and with different production teams prior to her recurring work on the soap. Her early television roles help establish a foundation for her work in long‑running series.

During her time on "Passions," Cardillo plays Esme Vanderheusen from her first appearance in late 2005 through multiple years, becoming known for the character’s dramatic schemes and relationships. She continues to perform on the show as Esme interacts with the Crane family and others in Harmony.

Outside of "Passions," Cardillo also works in other television roles and later expands into writing and producing, participating in creative work beyond acting.
