LOVE & WAR: EPISODE FIVE     86/05/08

ASHTON AND BENT'S EVIL PLOT IS REVEALED -- The war turns against the South. Orry (Patrick Swayze) and Charles (Lewis Smith) rescue George (James Read) from Libby Prison and kill Turner (guest star Wayne Newton), allowing George to return North. George discovers Stanley (Jonathan Frakes) and Isabel’s (Mary Crosby) illegal scheme to use cheap iron for cannons and forces them to confess. Stanley is remorseful, while Isabel remains defiant. In Charleston, Bent (Philip Casnoff) attempts to kill Madeline (Lesley-Anne Down, but Rafe (guest star Lee Horsley) saves her and is fatally shot. Bent then recruits James Huntoon (guest star Jim Metzler) for a plot to overthrow the Confederate government, unaware that Huntoon is secretly reporting the conspiracy to Jefferson Davis (Lloyd Bridges). Davis orders Orry to stop the coup and capture Bent. Orry and Huntoon attack Bent’s hideout, where an accidental fire causes his hidden ammunition to explode, apparently killing him. Shaken, Ashton (Terri Garber) confesses her affair with Bent, her role in the plot to kill Billy (Parker Stevenson), her abortion, and helping Bent drive Madeline away. Orry furiously disowns her, while Huntoon refuses her pleas for forgiveness and indicates that their marriage is over. Kirstie Alley, Genie Francis, and Wendy Kilbourne also star. TVPG
