JOHN ECK

John Eck was named President, Broadcast and Network Operations, NBC, in July 1998. He oversees production operations, program distribution, real estate and sourcing at NBC. He reports to Andrew Lack, the president and chief operating officer of NBC. Additionally, after NBC’s acquisition of 32% of Paxson Communications Corporation, Eck was appointed chief of operations for Paxson, which is the largest broadcast television station group in the country.

Eck served as NBC’s senior vice president and chief quality officer from July 1997 until his appointment to his current position. He was responsible for the launch and development of NBC’s Six Sigma quality initiative, a rigorous system of process improvement. Since its launch in 1995, Six Sigma has been one of NBC parent company General Electric’s most successful initiatives, saving GE billions of dollars.

Prior to the quality assignment, Eck had been Chief Financial Officer for NBC International and Business Development. His focus was on all aspects of NBC’s mergers and acquisitions activity, international operations, and all major business development initiatives. Eck led the finance involvement in the formation of NBC News’ partnership with Microsoft on cable and the Internet, as well as in structuring CNBC’s global alliance with Dow Jones in business news. He joined NBC in 1993 as Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis.

Before joining NBC, Eck held various financial positions at GE businesses, including GE Capital, GE Power Generation and GE Aircraft Engines. He started his career in GE’s Financial Management Program with GE Lighting in 1982.

Eck graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. He lives in Connecticut with his wife, Debbie, and their two children, Christopher and Danielle.
